MESSAGES

Hello everyone                                                                                   3-19-2018

Squadron Members Membership Dues still need to be turned in; at this time Massachusetts is ranked  46th in the nation and is 2nd to last in the Eastern Region based on the last report sent from the National Organization. Last week I received a call from our National Vice Commander Ken Warner asking “what was going on with our Detachment”. So please be aware that the National Organization is aware of how we are performing! The time for action is now please make contact and find out how members are if you have not heard from them or seen then. A reminder can be key in retaining a member and keeping your Squadron alive. We all have a tendency to forget important matters in our day to day schedules due to work and our very busy home lives so please reach out now and see what you can do to help out one of your extended SAL family members.

The confusion continues regarding membership, payments and where to send materials for the Sons. Please remember it is the responsibility of each Squadron Membership Chairman to process the membership cards correctly not the State House. The fully completed cards (this means both sections have been completely filled out) and the per capita $7.00 payment for each member are being sent to the Massachusetts State House and not to National Headquarters! Any cards and payments sent to National are sent back to the Massachusetts State House by the National Organization for Massachusetts to process. In turn if the materials have not been completed correctly the State House will then return the materials to the Squadron for them to be properly complete. If your Squadron Members try to access any of their benefits that they are due and the cards have not reached the National Organization they will be denied.

If you have questions or if you need any help with membership processing Vice Commander Nay and I travel all across the state, so no Squadron is too far away for us to visit. Please feel free to contact Marvin, Cliff or me and we can set up a visit to your Squadron if you need assistance. All our contact information can be found on the Sons State Website which is www.salmass.org

Another very important matter is the upcoming visit by the American Legion National Commander. All Sons members are welcome and encouraged to attend the Banquet which will be held at the Best Western Hotel in Marlborough on Saturday April 7th. Tickets are available through your District Ticket Chairman; I’m hoping to see many of you in attendance to make the National Commander aware that the Sons of The American Legion Detachment of Massachusetts is a very active part of the American Legion Family.

Working together we can make a difference in the lives of our Veterans, Their Families and our Communities.

Hello everyone                                                                                                               3-5-18

Just a reminder that many Squadron Members still have not paid their annual Membership Dues. The time for action is now please make contact, it’s important to check in and find out how members are if you have not heard from them. Sometimes a reminder is all that is needed to keep you Squadrons membership alive and growing. Please note I have attached a copy of the most up to date membership report for your review.

Also there still seems to be confusion regarding membership, payments and where to send things for the Sons. Please remember it is the responsibility of each Squadron/Post to process the membership cards correctly not the State House. The fully completed cards (this means both sections have been filled out) and the per capita $7.00 payment should be sent to the Massachusetts State House not to National Headquarters! Any cards and payments sent to National are sent back to the State House by the National Organization for Massachusetts to process. In turn if the materials have not been completed correctly the State House will then return the materials to the Squadron for them to properly complete.

Please remember that Detachment Vice Commander Marvin Nay is the Sons State Membership Chairman this year. Marvin, Cliff and I are always willing to assist you if you have questions or if you need any help with membership processing. Marvin and I travel across the state, so no Squadron is too far away for us to visit too assist you. Please feel free to contact Marvin, Cliff or me and we can set up a visit to your Squadron. All our contact information can be found on the Sons State Website which is www.salmass.org

Working together we can make a difference in the lives of our Veterans, Their Families and our Communities.

Hello Everyone                                                                                                                       2-2-18

Our National Children & Youth Chairman John Waite has asked that I share the Winter Newsletter with all of you. Please see the attached.

Also just a reminder about membership. There still seems to be confusion about the submitting of membership card; cards and the payment should be sent every two weeks even if you only have one to send please send it. The State House continues to receive either payment without the cards or cards and no payment. The State House will hold the cards and or payment until the other has been received; it is your membership chairman’s responsibility to see that this task is carried out properly. Also please remember that both parts of the card must be completed before sending it to the State House this includes address, Phone numbers, email address, and birthday. If cards have incomplete data they will be returned to the sender for completion before being processed by the State House..

If you need assistance with membership please don’t hesitate to contact Vice Commander Nay, or any of the Detachment officers for help. All of our contact information can be found on the Detachment Website (salmass.org).

Thank you for your continued support of our Veterans, Their Families and our communities.

Regards

Ernie

Hello everyone                                                                                                                             11/2/17

A very important event is fast approaching it is the Veterans Day Parade in Boston to be held on Saturday November 11th. This event brings to mind a line out of the Sons of The American Legion Preamble to the Constitution “to foster and perpetuate a true spirit of Americanism”. What better way to honor those who went before us or who are still missing by participating in this event. Our veterans/forefathers are why we are all a part of this great organization.

American Legion Department of Massachusetts Commander Mike Davis has invited all Legion Family Members which includes The Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, The Sons of The American Legion, and The American Legion Riders to this event.

With that stated I’m asking all Squadrons to send as many members as possible to be a part of the parade so we can proudly represent the Detachment of Massachusetts. If you have any questions about this event please feel free to contact any of the Detachment officers of feel free to contact me directly.

I look forward to seeing you at this very important event.

Hello everyone, I hope you all enjoyed your summer.                                                                          9/29/2017

As we head into the fall season it’s time to start thinking about everything that happens this time of year; such as Fall Festivals, and Halloween. But let’s not forget the maintenance that we all must undertake such as raking leaves and cleaning rain gutters and down spouts.  This is a good time to check in on our area veterans and neighbors who may need a hand with these chores. Especially the handicapped and disabled many of which are unable to do these tasks without our assistance.

If you know someone who needs a hand reach out, better yet get other members of your Legion Family together and make it a day of community service. By doing this your community will become more aware of who the Legion Family is and all they do.

Also, don’t forget to record this information on your Consolidated Report Form it’s never too early to start documenting all that you do to support our veterans, their families and our communities.

I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event.

             Regards

Hello Everyone                                                                                                                                  8/28/2017

I wanted to send out a reminder to everyone that the annual POW/MIA Ceremony held at Battleship Cove in Fall River MA aboard the USS Massachusetts is fast approaching. It will be held on Sunday September 10th . If you have never attended before, this event is well worth the ride. Members of the Legion Family which includes Legion, Auxiliary, Sons, and Legion Riders take part in this event along with special guest speakers. As always your admission to the event is free and if you arrive early you can also tour the other ships that are on display. If you would like more information please feel free to contact any of the Detachment Officers or Chairmen. Or you can contact me directly.

I look forward to seeing you at this events please show your support to the families of those men and women who are still missing or who paid the ultimate price for our freedom! Once again thank you for all that you do for our Veterans, their Family’s, and our Communities throughout the State.

Hello Everyone                                                                                                                                     8/2/2017

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer with family and friends. “Communication” is the key to our success! This year I will try to send out information that I receive in an effort to keep all of you better informed of upcoming Legion Family Events across the State. As all of you know there are still many Legion Family event being held throughout the state while the weather is still warm. One of these events is the American Legion Baseball State Tournaments and at tonight’s game the Legion will be preforming their opening ceremony at 7:30 PM. This will take place at Fitton Field, 1 College St., Worcester MA. If you are able to attend and show your support of this great program please stop by and attend.

This year’s Department Commander Mike Davis who is also an member of the Sons has been kind enough to share his schedule of Legion Family Events with us. As we receive this information we will be sharing it with all of you so we can further show our support of these great Legion events. I look forward to seeing you at one of these events, and once again thank you for all that you do for our Veterans, their Family’s, and our Communities throughout the State.
